CyanoFabbrica aims to harness cyanobacteria’s intrinsic ability to biomineralize for the design of novel biofabrication strategies. A process called cyanobacteria biomineralization has been used to create a unique material made from photosynthetic. The latter are single-celled organisms that can be found in different habitats. They can be transformed into bricks that can then be made into other projects. Cinzia Ferrari decided to make sunglasses to demontrate the compabilities of this biomineralised material. The idea is that the object can be remanufactured or destroyed at the end of a life cycle and used as substrate for new products.
