The fishing net industry causes a large amount of plastic pollution in our oceans. The newer fishing nets are using a higher amount of plastic and quicker production techniques to produce vast quantities in shorter timeframes. The new ways not only damage the environment but put traditional craft out of business. So Amalia Puga created a collection called “Entre Redes”. One of the handwoven chair is entirely joined by traditional fishing knots with recycled nets. Her project incorporates the team of female net makers into the design process of the product which combines individuality of artisan techniques with the possibilities of design and innovation.
