The stone-like material called Scalite is made from fish scales, an abundant and renewable by-product of the fishing and aquaculture industries. Scalite uses a natural biopolymer contained within the scales. During the process this biopolymer is extracted and mixed with the mineral part of the scales to create the basis of their material. The outcome is a powder that they compress according to their propriety process to form sheets of various dimensions. Thanks to the natural origin ingredients, no other additives, chemicals or binders are needed nor added during the process, with the final material resulting in a VOC free, 100% fish scale-based product.
