Wastea, is manufactured from tea waste that would have otherwise ended up in incinerators or landfills. Due to its significant environmental effect, water consumption, carbon footprint, and frequent presence of chemical residues, tea waste represents 10% of the world’s tea output and is a major issue. With the help of a proprietary technique that turns tea waste into a resilient, flexible, and breathable material that resembles leather, Scays Group identified an opportunity to solve this issue.

Wastea in comparison to traditional leatheroffers numerous advantages compared to conventional leather: fire resistance to a grade, vegan and animal-friendly, water-resistant and stain-resistant, lightweight and comfortable, and it can be dyed, printed, embossed. Moreover, the overall bio-based content in this material ranges between 45% and 95%, as the fabric contains polyurethane (Bio Polyole) that is bio-based as well.
