Vigils is Oxman's first Hybrid Living Textile, combining seamless 3D-knitted fabrics with engineered bacteria that grow color directly into the textile instead of using synthetic dyes. The knitted fabric acts as a biological scaffold, where genetically programmed E. coli deposit indigo and melanin pigments through 24 hours of controlled microbial growth, creating unique patterns shaped by gene expression and cellular activity.
